February 3rd until the end of the month, I’m going to be in a show at the gallery at the Nova Scotia Public Archives. We had our first real meeting with all of the participants (7-8) this weekend, and I am super excited about it now. It’s a really diverse group of people in terms of media, but aesthetically and thematically I think that it will all hang together really really well. I think we all may contribute to one piece or make an individual piece on the same subject, which could be really cool too. That part of the show is going to be based around the demolition of the old apartment building on Hollis and Morris as well as the semi preservation of the house that they moved from that site that is now just sitting, waiting to be actually treasured. It’s such bullshit. Halifax needs to stop trying to be the big city it never will be, and really embrace it’s historic properties. For serious.

more on this later. The whole working full time/studio other full time schedule is really hard to get back into and I am exhausted.

This is a current rundown of the inside of my head in terms of work, helpfully written in bulletpoints. alllright.

- I am super interested in resolving surfaces, with and without glaze

- I would like for my work to get across my concept a little bit better. I think the best way to do this is to incorporate everyday, recognizable items.

-However, I am having a hard time letting go of making totally foreign and whole objects. I like that they’re autonomous.

-I’m thinking that I may try and do both.

- I need to brainstorm/research to come up with some different surface patterns, and ways of making said patterns.

I am so so so excited for this.

This journal is meant to be a bridge between my head and the world. It is a way to communicate the ideas around my work, to show the process of making including inspiration and idea forming, and a method of documenting the progress of the work that I make. This is the beginning. I graduated with a bachelor of fine art sixth months ago. I am in the process of figuring out the rest of my life (piece of cake, kids. Don’t even worry about it). I am in the middle of a train of thought regarding my work, but it’s a good place to be. The next few months, I will focus on putting together a portfolio to apply to residencies and grad school with. I will untangle the mess of thoughts in my head. This will help.

I have never been so terrified and excited in my life.
